Herein I've outlined the mechanics required to use The Four Principles Of Execution in Technique and in Your Life.
In order to effectively execute a strike or technique, these principles are imperative to instill into your everyday life and most importantly your daily training.
The actual mechanics in the execution of a strike, or reaching a goal.
#1. Visualization
The act of Total sensation towards your target. See your target, feel it, hear it, taste it, smell it! If the Cheek is your target, see that point of contact, and visualize through that point of contact. Although your punch may actually stop at said target, your power or Ki/Chi, with visualization will continue through the cheek, physically, visually, and sensationally, to the opposite side of the face or back of the head, devastating the contents between the two points. This is where you practice Mastering your ability to Control your strikes. Practicing this art of control, requires repetitive practice, on targets and in sparring. Your Goal is to throw every technique with maximum effort and be able to control the Power, Speed and Depth of Contact upon your target.
The heavy bag is a place to start, Visualize striking a point upon the bag, execute this strike seeing your point of contact, feel the impact, hear the sound of the leather being struck, smell the dust as it escapes after your strike, but control the depth of the strike at several points. Just before the bag, just at the bag, just beneath the surface of the bag, and all the way through the bag. From here you can graduate to conditioning and control using a Makiwara. This repetitive practice will prepare your body and mind for actual contact. Now it's time to practice in a mirror. Visualize an opponent in the ring, see them throw techniques at you, bob, weave, pivot, block and counter. Visualize to the point of reality in your minds eye, use all your senses and you will be prepared to take on and destroy any opponent who threatens you.
Take all this practice and apply it to your day to day.
Mix Visualization into your daily life.
Whatever your goals or dreams are in this life, you need to set points of accomplishment towards their attainment. Whether they be short term, or long term, Visualizing them is a must for them to be achieved. The more senses you can get involved in this process the easier these events occur. In essence, you are going to be playing a movie in you mind and body. You will See the target, Hear the gears of movement towards attaining this goal. Touch, Feel, your project soundly within your grasp. With all your senses, physically, mentally, spiritually experience the Joy and Recognition of Triumph. If you truly can believe and conceive an Idea or thought, perceive it as history or already having accomplished your task, take action towards it, and it Will, come to be. It is that simple, don't over think things, just plan and act. Start with little goals, for me, I started in sales, and my daily goal is to achieve producing $100 a day. I set out to accomplish this task when I leave my home, and do not surrender or stop my day, until that small goal is achieved.
On to the 2nd of the Four Principles of Execution.
#2 Rolling Contact
The simple act of twisting the Wrist or body to either create more damage or block with pain to the attacker.
When executing a punch, upon contact if you twist the wrist at the contact point, like a washing machine agitator, you will grab the contact surface with your knuckles, (your agitator) and with that motion, you will twist, rip and tear the skin at that contact point. With blocking, when you turn/roll your forearms outward towards an attack this motion will expose the bony portion of the arm (the Ulna) causing an abrupt contact point for the attacker adding pain and power to your block. This can also apply to turning or rolling the hip and leg to the outside, exposing the Shin to the attacking appendage.
In Life, Rolling Contact, can be related to the simple saying of “just rolling with the punches”. As in thwarting an attack physically, in life, you are constantly bombarded with obstacles, sickness, injury, let downs, failures, loss..... Unless you are some extraordinary phenomenon in the universe, you will experience the good and the bad. Another universal law, you just can't have one without the other. No Night, without Day, No Cold, without Hot, No Smooth without Rough..... So you can't get over excited, or totally bummed because of what comes your way in life. Absorb the situation, use it as a lesson, learn from it and just “Roll with the Punches.”
Number #3
Tension Upon Extension!
In order to properly execute a technique, the prior 2 principles need to be in place while adding this into the mix. Speed!
Speed is "Power"!
As the Principle mentions, "Tension" upon Extension! You simply do as the Principle suggests, "Relax until you make contact or until you are at the full extension of said technique.
Relax, first and foremost, if you are relaxed while you are performing you will indeed be much faster simply by incorporating the fast twitch muscles in your body. This is how they operate. Being tense, rigid and all bound up will not allow these fast twitch muscle fibers to work and you in turn end up using too much energy, "Just" by being tense, you are slowing down the technique. So when tension is in play, you wear yourself down and throw easily blocked technique with no power. In conclusion, Constant Tension equals, being used up physically and providing no speed or power, with a useless thud at contact. Being Relaxed, allows you to perform longer, while creating speed in your technique, the power is the combination of the speed you develop and the Explosion/Tension you demand at Contact. Providing this tension at the end of the technique is like a land mine exploding or a whip snapping. Relax through the technique and Explode on Contact. Of course, with all of these principles I am laying out for you here,"Practice" and proper mechanics of technique will optimize your final execution, but simply applying these principles to any execution will amplify the result.
This principle related to life, is as simple as saying “Be Prepared”. As in striking stay relaxed, strive towards your end result and be prepared. Do not expend unnecessary effort or strain at working towards your goal. Work smarter not harder. Once you've set a goal, or striking point, gather the knowledge you need to reach the desired outcome and be prepared to handle the conclusion. What are the possible defensive moves your opponent may put into action while you are executing your strike, or what are some of the obstacles that may arise as you move towards your goal? Research your opponent/task, know what the probabilities could be and execute accordingly. Stay focused, on point and be prepared to learn or rejoice.
Number # 4
For Every Action, There Is An Equal And Opposite Reaction!
Simply put, In, Out, Up, Down.... If you are executing a Jab (from an Orthodox fighting stance), as this technique returns to its starting position, simultaneously you execute a Right Cross. The more continuous you become at throwing technique, the less likely it will be, to be countered upon and in executing technique in this manner, you are positioning your body with each shot to be the most powerful, because as your body twists you are essentially cocking the whole body to throw each shot. Left Hip, Shoulder Fist extended, pulls the Right Hip and Shoulder into a fully cocked/loaded Right Cross and this body positioning continues as long as you continue to execute technique.
As for life, our final principle is as simple as just being consistent in all you do. As you do one thing, so you do all things. Just keep moving forward, putting one foot in front of the other. Do Not Stop, or Give Up! For every action move on towards the next. As in all of these principles, you must train to be capable of executing a devastating technique. Therefore you must ingrain these principles into your every fiber, along with all the required knowledge to perform effortlessly in the attainment of your objective.
